After which, the journalists were invited for the opening keynote by Prince Muhammed Ibn Khalid Al Abdullah Al Faisal; who talked about Sony's achievements and how they had been the first to hold a conference in the Middle East. This was followed by Tim Stocks, president of Sony Middle East and Africa, who took the stage to talk about the gaming market and how it has risen to take the number one position; surpassing the music and the movie industry and indicating that it was one of the few markets that was not affected by the global economy crisis. Tim Stocks continued by detailing some Playstation related statistics: -PLAYSTATION 3 sales in the Middle East has seen a 70% increase with 750 Million Dollar profits. -PLAYSTATION 3 sales in the Middle East reached 250 thousand units, and is expected to reach 400 thousand by the end of the fisical year (March 2009). -The console itself sold 100,000 units in Saudi Arabia alone, which makes 40% of the Middle Eastern market, with a growth rate of 95% compared to the PS2 which sold 80,000 units in 18 months -PLAYSTATION 3 software sales has reached 750,000 units with profits of around 45 million dollars in the Middle east -Playstation Network (PSN) has reached approximately 35,000 users in Saudi Arabia alone. SONY also revealed some information regarding the HOME open beta claiming that it will go live in December this year, followed by the announcement of several Middle Eastern PS3 bundles : -FIFA 09 Bundle 1869 S.R -Resistance 2 Bundle 1729 S.R -Motorstorm 2 Bundle 1729 S.R -300(Blu-ray) Bundle about 1600 S.R -G160+ DualShock 3+ 80$ for PSN purchases PSP achievements and statistics were also detailed: -The PSP managed to sell 300,000 units to date in Saudi Arabia alone and is expected to reach 500,000 by the end of 2008 with a growth rate of 85% thanks to the PSP Slim and Lite. -PSP 3004 was announced with similar features to previous models with the exception of an improved sound quality and a higher screen resolution. -FIFA 09 and Need For Speed bundles were announced both retailing for 799 S.R Continuing the keynote, Stocks outlined the current sales of the PS2, claiming that they have seen a 30% growth in annual sales in the Middle East. The keynote was concluded by listing some of the services and games planned for the PS3 in the coming two months and announcing a FIFA 09 competition in Jeddah from 25th to 26th of December and in Riyadh from the 1st to 2nd of December. The conference finished with Prince Mohammed Al Faisal attending a Q&A session with the press."
